This session will be led by experts who will discuss the Medicaid insurance program's role in providing healthcare services to justice-involved individuals. Medicaid can be a game changer in keeping people with behavioral health issues from cycling in and out of jail, diverting people in need to treatment and ensuring continuity of physical and mental health care upon release. But the language of Medicaid is arcane and the issue is complicated by the fact that each state’s program, reach and mix of funded services is different.

Our speakers have deep experience in states with using Medicaid as a tool to improve justice system outcomes. And they are very good at explaining Medicaid to those of us who don’t speak health care.
