This session will summarize national trends in incarceration, community supervision and behavioral health, focusing on how evolutions in the size and composition of these populations present unique challenges and opportunities for state and local leaders as they consider how best to enhance public safety, reduce recidivism and allocate limited resources effectively. Please join Dr. Carrie Chapman, senior data and policy specialist with the Crime and Justice Institute (CJI), as she highlights examples from states across the country, showcasing how policy changes grounded in data and research on best and promising practices have been implemented in response to criminal justice system challenges. From the establishment of presumptive probation in Alabama to Wyoming's integration of treatment into its supervision model, states are applying data-driven, research-supported, and cost-effective approaches to meet their unique needs.
